Sometimes running is the only thing that makes sense in Laurel Jameson’s life. When life’s stresses come at her like bad dates, a stagnant career trajectory, and parents who treat her like a wayward teenager instead of a thirtysomething adult, she works it out on the pavement with her friends in the Midtown Milers running club. However, when she cuts a slow driver off in traffic and he ends up being the group’s newest member, they get off on the wrong foot, and his judgmental attitude threatens her peaceful Saturday routine.

Cal Tremblay came to Toronto to leave his divorce and the grief of a failed infertility journey behind. He seeks out fellow runners to show him around, but he never seems to say the right thing, especially around Laurel, the attractive woman who helps lead the group. But an exchange of teasing barbs between the two leads to a cautious friendship. After a training injury throws Laurel’s half marathon goals and emotions into freefall, she starts to see another side to awkward Calvin: a thoughtful friend or maybe even something more. But he seems distracted by his life back home and determined to shut her out.  Will he ever be ready to open up about his baggage to let someone else in? With her heart on the line, Laurel may have to choose whether she needs to start running towards a new future, even if it means leaving Cal in the dust.
